Is the search for God or truth?

Are God and truth mutually exclusive?
Can we only have one or the other?
Ultimately, we seek truth, but what if God is that truth?
Will we dismiss God as a consideration for ultimate truth simply because God is inconvenient or maybe seems like a short-cut, cope-out?

This is like saying only science or religion can be true.

Searching For Best Explanation

We are searching for the best explanation of why humanity and reality exist in truth. God is one of the reasons for existence and truth. The difficulty is that if God is true, then God becomes the arbiter or the judge of all truth, and truth becomes subservient to Him.

This is a challenge to our scientific culture, where physical laws of reality are actual, and human beings are subservient to such truths. Humans cannot escape our reliance on science and reality. We try to conform reality and the world around us to our desires.

If God is true, then God shapes reality and the world around us. It is one thing for uncaring forces to direct our paths; we feel we can manipulate “forces of nature” and mold those forces to our desire.

However, if God is the ultimate reality, then God himself has a will that then bends reality, which then requires humans to submit themselves to God’s decisions and choices for the universe.

So, in effect, we lose some control. Life begins to feel, at some level, manipulated or determined. So then, do our future, and our present seem to be controlled by another being? Is this a problem? Is this uncomfortable?

Is the Religion Old

Master Of Our Own Destiny

See, if God exists, He demands something from us. Whereas if the only truth is that the unfeeling scientific reality is all that exists, Humans become the master of our own destiny.

Though we might not be in control of death now, at some future scientific point, we might be able to control such fate or even soar to the stars. God or truth.

This binary decision seems easier. Accept one and reject the other. What we are really considering is god or no god. Truth exists. We try to determine what truth is, and frequently, we run from who might be the truth.

So, the search is not for God or truth. The search is for both. We search for truth, and we search for a being, God, who might be the controller of all truth.

Does that concern you or, worse, frighten you? I suggest we confront each topic with stoic resolve. Are you willing to submit to the truth when you find it? Are you willing to submit to God if He exists?

What is truth? Who is God? Those are the real questions to wrestle with. Enjoy the journey.
