Hinduism

The Search for God Page 5.6.2

I can see why Hinduism has survived so long. Hinduism combines aspects of monotheism, where Brahman is the supreme God, with the polytheism of lower beings, such as incarnations of gods such as Vishnu in Krishna.

And there are tons of philosophies and rules on how to behave properly.

How do I find God?

The source of knowledge in Hinduism is broad, consisting of:

Incarnations
Emanations
Gods
Humans
Demons
Saints
Seers

Who all contributed to the knowledge and wisdom of Hinduism.

Many within Hinduism would say that Brahman, the supreme God, has manifested these lesser gods and therefore has spoken about himself. For now, I will grant that this could be a source of knowledge I would accept as arising from the one God of the universe

However, in the situation that we were using prophecy of Brahman as verification from the one true God of the universe, signs that only a being outside of time would be able to provide, I find Hinduism lacking.

The prophecies I could find seemed forced and observational at best. There are claims to Krishna returning, but nothing in the past that verifies Hinduism’s claims. However, Hinduism still might warrant further evaluation and study.

I found no rational inconsistencies. The universe could be structured this way, the religion is very old, and there have been multiple communications. According to hinduwebsite.com, “It has no founder and no particular text which can fully represent it as in case of the Abrahamic religions such as Christianity or Islam.

Its philosophy, beliefs, practices, customs and traditions are derived from numerous sources.” I would like to see a little more consistency in who provides the communication and more signs of prophecy.

Although I would prefer a higher being to communicate like Brahman directly, I understand the incomprehensibility of such a God that maybe he chose emanations of Vishnu and Shiva to communicate. Therefore, Hinduism remains on the list for deeper evaluation.

What Next?

  • What is the crucial concept?
    • In this case the greater God we are searching for, Brahman, exists in Hinduism, but does not speak directly to mankind. Lesser beings, manifested beings, speak or incarnate into man in the Hindu religion, who are the ones who provide the knowledge on death and evil.
  • Why is that significant?
    • Since these beings lack all knowledge and the Greater God does not speak but only manifests himself, we can’t know and verify ultimate reality and truth.
